Gone are the days of placing a white shade on your lamp and being done. White was popular because it allowed the most light to illuminate through. However modern shade choices offer every color under the rainbow so have some fun. Here's some tips to help you choose the right colors.

I. A polished brass shade looks its best with white

II. Antique brass looks its best with cream

III. Crystal looks sharpest in shades of white but would be a poor choice for a western themed room.

IV. Wood can wear any color and almost any material type. It looks classy in earth tones.

V. Porcelain and Ceramic lamps look great with a pattern shade if they are plain or a colored complimentary shade if they are patterned.

6. Fabric

The fabric of your lamp shade can make a statement or blend. There's some great western patterns to choose from like chuck wagons, horses, or horseshoes to name just a few. You'll want to use heavy fabrics for your western theme. Silk just wouldn't look good. You might even consider using a fabric like burlap.

7. Accents

A western themed room is one of the easiest rooms to use funky accents. For example why not consider a cowboy boot base or a wagon lamp? There are all kinds of interesting accents you can use to complete your look and that includes in your shade choices. Be creative.

8. Proportion

Your shade needs to be proportional to the lamp and it should always cover the entire socket. The shade should measure at least 2" less the size of the base.
