For years incandescent and fluorescent was the common forms of lighting but in recent years halogen lighting has become quite popular but there are some things you should know about halogen floor lamps.

Halogen bulbs are simply a variation of incandescent technology where a trace amount of halogen is added that removes the tungsten extending the life of the bulb. And in order to have that chemical reaction occur the filament has to get really hot.

This means you get a much whiter light and a more efficient bulb. But the bad news is halogen bulbs get so hot that they can pose a fire hazard so it's important to use them only in lamps and lighting that are stable with no risk of falling over.

Some of the newer halogen bulbs are using xenon instead of krypton or argon as the fill gas. The object has been to improve performance. This alternative gas is quite expensive and the benefits are still questionable. The Halogen-IR bulbs have a special coating which reflects the heat back creating a more efficient bulb.

Halogen produces a bulb that lasts a lot longer and has a much higher output. It's also very efficient for its compact size and the brighter whiter light is very functional. They do however cost more than incandescent bulbs.

Halogen floor lamps come in a terrific range of styles so you can chose from a trendy modern style or something far more traditional. There are single bulb lamps and multiple bulb lamps and the torchiere style floor lamps. Stainless steel and brushed pewter are very popular in the floor lamp styles.
