It was way back in 1792 that gas lighting came to be when William Murdoch lit his home in Cornwall with coal gas. By 1799 the thermolampe was on the market. This lampe used gas made from distilled wood. And by 1804 Freidrich Winzer of Germany had patented coal gas.

By the late 1800s almost all the cities in Europe and the US were using gas lights for street lighting which was eventually replaced by electric lighting. Today gas lamps are making a comeback for lighting yards. That's because it's not only appealing it's very affordable.

You could say we've come along way! From gas lamps on street corners to gas lamps in our yards, talk about curb appeal! These days w recognize our outdoor space as part of our living space and we tend to spend a great deal more time using it for entertaining. Gas lighting can not only accentuate your landscaping it can set the mood for those memorable get togethers.
